Pointe du Raz

Pointe du Raz in Finistére

Reiseblog - Travel blog

Pnte du Raz is not just any cap at any ocean. It is the westernmost point of the entire Bretagne. Also, it is the wildest point where land meets ocean. Even during a normal day, waves are about 2 metres high, at least.

Baie des Trépassés

Going back from the cap through the village of Plogoff the road will lead you back to the bay that connects Pnte du Raz with Pnte du Van, that place is called Baie des Trépassés. If you are keen to see breakwater coming into the bay, here is your place to be.

A day at the seaside

In late autumn and through the winter, the guesthouses and hotels are mostly closed. The two hotels  at Baie de Trépassés are also closed and there is not much going on at that place. A large car park is available and can easily be accessed from the road. From the car park you have direct access to the beach, which is not too small.

When there are more than two or three people are walking about across the Baie de Trépassés, then the beach is rather overcrowded. Joke. Of course, during high season, the beach is full with tourists having a good time.

Below you can sample a bit of the quiet and calm the visitor can enjoy during late autumn and winter.

Below you can see the Atlantic ocean and the waves rolling in on the beach. This was a day with good weather and no storm. Imagine the place with rough sea? Then the Baie is the place to be.

Also the remnants of the last war are still about. There are two bunkers at the beach, though closed for the public. It looks as if the bunker on the left once housed a gun and the bunker on the right once was a machine gun position. Thankfully there is no longer use for that sort of installation. Nonetheless graffiti artists are nearly everywhere, and here they gave the concrete a bit of sense.
