Travel Blog Ljubljana - Slovenia

Ljubljana is the capital and also the largest city of Slovenia, with a population of about 284,000. Also, Ljubljana is a diocesan town and hosts a university. Ljubljana sits on the banks of the river Save that flows through the old town of Ljubljana. Although capital of a country, Ljubljana comes across with a distinctive small town charm that appeals to everyone, to residents and visitors alike. 

What can I expect as a visitor?

The visitor comes into a small city with pulsating life, that is for sure. Ljubljana is not the big metropolitan area with huge traffic, noise and hectic life. It is not. Ljubljana comes across a nice spot on earth. You will like it, guaranteed. 

It is always a good idea not to expect anything when visiting an new city. What I am saying is, keep your eyes open for the unexpected, look for the small things alongside your way. Of course, there are the must-have-seen sightseeing places in town, but what really makes out a place are the small things and the people living there.

The old town of Ljubljana is full of old houses, bridges, churches, narrow lanes, hotels, pubs, restaurants, and full of people. There are many tourists walking about town, there are students, young folk. 

They still have an old castle. The castle is uphill, you will have to walk, but once up there, you will have a very good view of the town and the surroundig area. 

In the evening there is ample opportunity to go out and eat or have a drink. You don't have to make a plan just go out and step in somewhere, it will suit you.

Going places is the best way to visit parts of the world, have new impressions see other cities, people, attitudes. Ljubljana is a nice place. The city is not too big and people go about their business but everything is going the way it has to go but no-one really seems to be hectic about it . Compared to other parts of Europe this is really special. One day in a city or any place is not so much time to go round and capture the best bits on camera. For us it was enough to go through the city centre and enjoy ourselves.

Interesting sights in Ljubljana

The city has a lot to offer when it comes to architecture. The old town of Ljubljana is a must-see for every visitor. Below there is a short list what you can go for during your visit:

As already mentioned there is quite a good nightlife going on the old town of Ljubljana. So go out and enjoy yourself. The photographer will find many good subjects where to train the camera to, day and night.

The historic centre has a lot of old architecture on offer. The visitor interested in old buildings has plenty to watch. The streets also have new buildings which fit in perfectly with the old constructions. As we all know this is quite difficult to achieve but in Ljubljana they seem to have done a perfect job on their urban development.
